This project introduces Swarm Manufacturing (SM), a novel approach leveraging robotic swarms to autonomously cooperate in producing a wide range of products. By employing a modular testbed with 3D printer, laser, transport, and assembly robots, SM enables distributed manufacturing for general-purpose factories, enhancing scalability and resilience.
Using task division, resource allocation, scheduling, and path planning, the framework validated its capabilities through the successful manufacturing of a mini-electrical vehicle (EV). This proof-of-concept highlights the potential for decentralized production systems to mitigate supply chain vulnerabilities.
